about the artist
Gina Hecht is a professional artist based in Bradenton, Florida. Growing up in a small Midwest town, Hecht finds her inspiration from her intimate connection to nature, using her work as a method to explore the raw beauty and power within the world around us.
Her distinctive technique of layering oil and cold wax create a dynamic interaction of light and depth within her work. By building transparent layers of texture and color, and then cutting back into them, her work finds both harsh lines and soft, blurred edges- encompassing the contradiction of power and beauty found in nature. In addition, her focus on complex textures immerses her viewers within her landscapes, encouraging them to explore their own narratives within the scene rather than passively observing. Thus, her work becomes more than just a painting, but rather a story built collectively by the artist, art and the viewer.
